Promises

“It is wonderful to know that when God makes a promise He never forgets, He never resends it, and He always fulfills it!”

Have you ever had good intentions when you made a promise, but something happened and you were unable to fulfill the promise you made or simply forgot the pledge or commitment?  Because we’re human beings things like that inadvertently happen.  When they do most often we feel very badly but the fact remains that we’re human and make mistakes.  It is wonderful to know that when God makes a promise He never forgets, He never resends it, and He always fulfills it!  Throughout the Bible there are examples of God’s promises being fulfilled.  Sometimes those promises are solidified and evidenced by the display of a rainbow.  You can research those references in Genesis, Ezekiel and Revelation specifically in the NIV translation of the Bible to name a few.

A few days ago my husband and I were returning home from a trip. As we often do while driving on the highway we take the time to engage in meaningful conversation.  We very much enjoy road trips together and having time to enjoy one another’s company.  I initiated the subject of conversation which to some degree was pretty heavy but it was something that had been on my mind for some time.

The conversation encompassed our past, our present status, and our goals for the future.  I began to share how grateful I am to God for him as my husband, our life together, and all the blessings that have been bestowed upon  us.  Then I opened up even more and I began to talk about something that is of a great concern to me.  And just as I said these words, “if there’s anything that keeps me awake at night it’s . . .”, we both looked up in the sky and saw a brilliant rainbow that seeming stopped right over the top of our car!

To say we were both astonished to see God’s rainbow at that very moment is an understatement!  Then as we looked closer another rainbow that was not quite as prominent was right beside the other one!  It was clear that God wanted us to know that the promises He has spoken over us, He has not forgotten them, He has not changed them, and they will be fulfilled.  He was saying “You have nothing to worry about”!  Isn’t God’s timing amazing!  His love for me never ceases to overwhelm me.  Needless to say that was the perfect cap on that conversation, He had the final say!

God speaks in ways that we do not expect, and oftentimes when we least expect Him to.  There is a familiar cliché that says “Why worry when you can pray?”  I would like to add “Why worry when God has already given His promise?”   It is understandable that a person with even the sincerest intentions potentially could let another person down or become unable to follow through with his/her promise.  But for God that is virtually impossible!!  It is time that we put our faith, our trust, and our hope in the one of is unchangeable, and infallible.  The only thing He is incapable of is failure!  Look for your rainbow, even in the midst of your darkest situation He will appear!

“And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making
between me and you and every living creature with you,
a covenant for all generations to come:
I have set a rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign
of the covenant between me and the earth.  Whenever I
bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears
in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between
me and you and all living creatures of every kind.
