For all she is…For all she does

“When she’s hurt, just like a track star she gets over it like a hurdle that she refuses to let keep her from her goal.”

One day a year we carve out time to celebrate mothers.  On this special day, florists are inundated with orders, restaurants are filled to capacity, husbands and children are combing the stores for a gift that hopefully will express their love, and almost every sermon preached will have something to say about God’s gift to the world.  As a mother I can honestly say that I sincerely appreciate the attention, the expressions of love, and the gifts.  However I wonder how often throughout the other 364 days of the year could we use a fraction of that love and attention.

I believe it’s just an unspoken expectation that the major role of a mother is to give.  It’s something seems to evolve in her as second nature.  She seeks to give even that which she doesn’t even have!  When she’s tired she reaches for that source of strength that only God can provide.  When she’s hurt, just like a track star she gets over it like a hurdle that she refuses to let keep her from her goal.  When she’s in physical pain, she pushes through because even the pain of childbirth did not stop her from bringing forth life.  When resources are low, her ingenuity kicks in and out of what others see as nothing she creates something!

I celebrate mothers everywhere, whether they have had the incredible honor of bringing a life into the world, or whether they have made the ultimate sacrifice to adopt a child whose biological mother is not present, and especially to those wonderful women who consider it an honor to unselfishly assume the role of “MOM” to ones who need that extra special loving care and guidance.  You are so precious and more valuable than even the most expensive and rare jewel.  I dedicate this poem in your honor not just on Mother’s Day but every day.

MOTHERS ARE SPECIAL
by Anonymous

There is no love like a mother’s love,
no stronger bond on earth
Like the precious bond that comes from God,
to a mother when she gives birth.
A mother’s love is forever strong, never changing for all time
And when her children need her most,
a mother’s love will shine.
God bless these special mothers,
God bless them every one
For all the tears and heartache,
and for the special work they’ve done.
When her days on earth are over,
a mother’s love lives onThrough many generations,
with God’s blessings on each one.
Be thankful for our mothers,
for they love with a higher love
From the power God has given,
and the strength from up above.
