Everywhere I Look…

I am sure you’ve heard the phrase and maybe even said it yourself, “everywhere I look there’s trouble” or “every time I turn around there’s more bad news”.  If you haven’t verbally expressed it, I am sure you’ve felt that way at some time or another.   Our world is in turmoil and does not seem to be on track to get any better.  The media has been bombarded with scandals within our government; and most recently a firestorm of accusations of sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct surfacing in the entertainment and media industry.

Individuals who have achieved great success and have been hailed as “legends” in the industry have been forced to either resign or have been fired.  Due to their indiscretions they have lost their respect, their dignity, and in some cases what is most dear to them – their families.  I will not even begin to attempt to understand what would cause a person to engage in such repulsive behavior and cause them to risk literally everything they have worked for and sacrificed to build.  However, it is disheartening and honestly causes you to wonder – who’s next and what’s next? When you are constantly surrounded by bad news and negativity it only stands to reason that our human side of reasoning and pessimism will eventually kick in.

Obviously unless we choose to leave society and move to a remote island, it is impossible to close ourselves off from all the disparaging events that are plaguing our world.  We must not lose focus on the source of our help, hope, and faith.  The One who has the answers and holds the power of all our solutions is the Lord Jesus Christ.  What do you do when things look bleak and overwhelmingly troublesome?  What do you do when circumstances are beyond your control?  We must see Jesus!  I offer the words of the Psalms 121 (AMP)

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills [of Jerusalem] – From where shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber.

Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber [briefly] nor sleep [soundly]. The Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your life. The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in [everything that you do]

From this time forth and forever.
